Dr. Renu Srivastava recipient of the University P&S Excellence Award

Renu SrivastavaDr. Renu Srivastava, an Assistant Scientist and manager of the laboratory of GDCB Professor Stephen Howell in the Plant Sciences Institute (PSI) has been awarded an ISU Professional and Scientific Excellence Award. This award recognizes and honors professional and scientific staff members who have achieved excellence in their respective fields.

Dr. Srivastava advanced to her present position in 2007 after having served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Dr. Howell’s lab since 2004. She has made outstanding research and student training contributions to the university and has been recognized nationally and internationally for her research excellence. Since coming to Iowa State, Dr. Srivastava has been a coauthor on eleven and the lead author on four prominent research publications in some of the most highly respected journals in Plant Sciences. She has made advances in understanding how crop plants can be improved to better tolerate stress. She has been a co-discoverer of a system that protects plants from adverse environmental conditions which is a valued trait in crops faced with a changing environment.

Dr. Srivastava will be formally honored for this award in the fall at the annual ISU faculty and staff awards ceremony, tentatively scheduled for Monday, September 22.
