Dr. Ilarslan received her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Biology from Ankara University, Ankara, Turkey. Dr. Ilarslan joined the faculty at Ankara University as an Assistant Professor in 1992. After serving as a Visiting Scientist at Iowa State University in 1994 for two years, she was promoted to Associate Professor at Ankara University in 1997. Dr. Ilarslan joined the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology at Iowa State University as an Assistant Scientist in 2001 and became an Adjunct Professor in 2007. In 2006, Dr. Ilarslan joined the faculty of Iowa State University as an Affiliate Assistant Professor.

Research Description
My research focus is the evaluation and interpretation of the developmental and cellular phenotype of mutants of Arabidopsis altered in the acetyl-CoA network. My particular interests are to understand how changes in expression of these genes affect the interplay between the endosperm and embryo during ovule development. Our laboratory studies transgenic plants at the sub-cellular level studying the physical changes mutations make inside specific cells. We approach questions about biological functions at the cellular and subcellular levels by imaging of Arabidopsis organs.
