Roy J. Carver Laboratory for Ultrahigh Resolution Biological Microscopy: Houses a wide range of computer controlled imaging systems, including confocal microscopy, epifluorescent microscopy, light microscopy including Normarski optics and digital imaging, as well as software to conduct electrophysiological experiments and image analysis. Also houses two Digital Instruments NanoScope III atomic force microscopes, Nucleic Acid Synthesis System for synthesis of aptamers, and an Affymetrix GeneChip® microarray analysis system. Also includes space for microfabrication, an electronics prototype workshop and a suite dedicated to the design and development of new instrumentation. GeneChip Facility: State-of-the-art facility for measuring the expression of thousands of genes in a single experiment using the Affymetrix GeneChip<174> system for microarray research. Microarray Facility: Production and analysis of spotted microarray chips used to conduct global mRNA profiling experiments. Bessey Microscope Facility: Instrumentation, technical assistance, service, consultation and training provided for photomacrography, light microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, cryopreservation, cytochemistry, autoradiography, X-ray microanalysis and image analysis Cell Facility: Advanced cell sorting, fluorescence microscopy, FRET. Animal Gene Transfer Facility: Transgenic animal production via microinjection or blastocyst injection procedures. Plant Transformation Facility: Transformation of maize, soybean and rice. DNA Sequencing and Synthesis Facility: In-house sequencing, oligo synthesis, and more - fast, convenient, and inexpensive. Protein Facility: Instruments for protein analysis including amino acid content, sequence, MALDI-TOF, Typhoon imager, etc. Hybridoma Facility: Monoclonal and polyclonal antibody production and screening. Proteomics Facility: Voyager DE-Pro MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer for proteome analysis. Metabolomics Facility: Instrumentation for global metabolite analysis including electrospray MS-MS, capillary electrophoresis, etc. Other Biotechnology Instrumentation Facilities and Research Resources: The Office of Biotechnology supports numerous other instrumentation facilities in various locations on the ISU campus. These include confocal microscopy and image analysis, fermentation, DNA microarray construction and reading, biomolecular structure determinations, and more. |
