Three BCB graduate students in the GDCB home department were recently awarded a James Cornette Research Fellowship in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Award.

Jennifer Chang, whose mentors are Professor Hui-Hsien Chou of GDCB and Professor Basic Nikolau of BBMB, along with Divita Mathur, whose mentors are Eric Henderson of GDCB and Jack Lutz of Computer Science, received a Cornette Summer Stipend Award, which provides support and tuition for the summer 2014 term. Zebulun Arendsee, whose mentor is Professor Eve Wurtele of GDCB, received a travel award, to help cover expenses to attend a scientific conference.

The James Cornette Research Fellowship in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology honors James Cornette, retired University Professor of Mathematics and founder of the BCB Graduate Program at Iowa State University. Dr. Cornette successfully brought biological and computational scientists together to create the nationally recognized BCB Graduate Program. The fellowships are awarded to deserving students in BCB with strong records of research accomplishment or evidence of great potential.
