Title: Understanding hematopoietic dysfunction in Crohn’s disease

Abstract: Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestine. Studies have traditionally focused on how the local tissue environment shapes an aberrant inflammatory response driving disease pathophysiology. Recently, the Cohen laboratory has suggested that defects in hematopoietic development prior to intestinal trafficking may contribute to the development of medically refractory phenotypes. This lecture will focus on our understanding of the pathophysiology of Crohn’s disease, the role of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the treatment of refractory Crohn’s disease and recent studies to define hematopoietic defects in  Crohn’s disease and the implication of these defects on disease outcomes.

Hosts: Clyde Campbell, GDCB assistant professor, and Raquel Espin Palazon, GDCB associate professor
