GDCB Seminar — 'Cardiac Snail family of transcription factors direct systemic lipid metabolism and protects against diet-induced obesity'
Speaker — Hui-Ying Lim, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center
Synopsis — The heart is now recognized as an important endocrine organ in the regulation of systemic lipid metabolism; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain less clear. In this talk, I will describe the role of Drosophila Snail family of transcription factors in the heart in directing systemic lipid metabolism. I will describe the control of Snail transcription factors in the heart by Wingless signaling. Finally, I will provide evidence demonstrating that the Wg-Snail transcription factor axis in the heart is induced by high fat diet which in turn serves as a cardiac adaptive mechanism to protect against diet-induced systemic obesity.
