Title: GOBII: Genomic Open-source Breeding Informatics Initiative

Abstract: In the last 10 years, genotyping costs have dropped significantly, making feasible powerful new breeding approaches that take advantage of the vast amounts of genomic data that have been generated. The Genomic & Open-‐source Breeding Informatics Initiative (GOBII) is the first large-‐scale public-‐sector effort to enable systematic application of high-‐density genotypic information to the breeding of staple crops in the developing world. In addition to providing an overview of the GOBII project and system architecture, the presentation will introduce several informatics initiatives aimed at increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of breeding programs focused on staple crops in the developing world.

Refreshments will be served in the Molecular Biology Building Atrium at 3:45 p.m.
