Teaching innovations in Biology 255 and 256
September 4, 2013

In a time of record enrollments across the University, the success of the Biology 255/255L Fundamentals of Human Anatomy and Biology 256/256L Fundamentals of Human Physiology courses is remarkable. Over 670 students are enrolled in Biology 255 this fall, including two on-campus sections and recently updated online offerings. Plans are already underway to add innovative new lab components to the Biology 256L course this spring, which will be taught in over 20 sections of 18 students each.
These exciting advances are orchestrated by a fantastic instructional team, including:
- Dr. Barbara Krumhardt, a senior lecturer who has earned teaching awards and has authored the lab manuals.
- Dr. Karri Haen, who is just starting her second year as a lecturer for these courses. In her first year, Dr. Haen improved the Biol 255 online material, and she was the lead instructor for the Biology 256 and 256L courses.
- Mary Madsen, RN, who joined the instructional team last spring and is the Teaching Laboratory Associate for both the Biol 255L and 256L courses.
- A cadre of talented graduate student teaching assistants who lead the laboratory sections.
