Dr. Krumhardt’s Biology 255 class participates in Iowa’s Healthiest State Walk
Dr. Barbara Krumhardt, Senior Lecturer for Biology 255, took very seriously the charge by the Nutrition Clinic for ISU Employee Wellness to “grab your co-workers and join throngs of Iowans on the Healthiest State Walk” at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. She invited the students in her Biology 255 class to join her in the walk to earn extra credit. 163 students signed up to walk the route designed by Dr. Krumhardt across the Iowa State University’s campus. She and GDCB teaching associate Mary Madsen (pictured right) handed out blue participant slips to students at the start of the walk at Science Hall II, which the students turned in for extra credit when they returned to the same location at the end of the walk. Many blue slips could be seen flapping in the breeze on the mild day as students walked off with their friends and classmates for the 1 kilometer (0.62 mile) 15 minute walk.
Dr. Krumhardt was surprised and pleased by the large turnout and thinks she may do the same thing next year with her students as part of Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative.
