Professor McGrail awarded Carver Trust grant to support cancer research

The ISU Foundation has announced that GDCB Assistant Professor Maura McGrail has been awarded a $375,000 grant from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust to support cancer research. Dr. McGrail and her research team are investigating the genetic causes of brain cancer using zebrafish as a model system. The goal of Dr. McGrail’s research is to identify changes in the genome that allow unregulated growth of cancer cells, information that is a necessary step to developing new therapies to treat malignant disease. The Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust in Muscatine, Iowa, is one of the largest private philanthropic foundations in the state of Iowa. It was created through the will of Roy J. Carver, a Muscatine industrialist and philanthropist, who died in 1981.
