Sweta Roy, a Bioinformatics and Computational Biology graduate student in Dr. Kuhlman’s laboratory in the GDCB home department, was recently awarded a one year AAUW International Fellowship.  Recipients are selected for academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to women and girls.

The AAUW is the nation’s leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. The International Fellowship is awarded to women in US universities that demonstrate academic achievement and dedication to women and girls.

During the award year, recipients pursue graduate studies and community projects to empower women and girls.  Sweta is working to understand the enteric nervous system (“brain in our gut”) using zebrafish and bioinformatics tools. She has also dedicated her time to motivate young girls to consider science as a career path at the Iowa Science Center’s Girls in Science festivals.
