Students named recipients of TEX/REX awards in 2023-24

2023-24 Teaching Excellence recipients

Spring 2024 Research Excellence recipient

Several graduate students affiliated with the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology received Research Excellence (REX) and Teaching Excellence (TEX) awards in the 2023-24 academic year.

Spring 2024 TEX recipients include: 

  • Panchali Chakraborty from GDCB’s Aung lab for her work in Biology 313 Lab where she made “complex topicx accessible.”
  • Anthony Sillman from GDCB’s Espin Palazon lab for teaching in Biology 212 Lab where he served as an “excellent mentor” with a “strong commitment” to his students.
  • Matthew Wendt from GDCB’s Yandeau-Nelson lab for his work in the Biology 313 Lab where he tailored his teaching to meet diverse needs.
  • Nicholas Topping, Department of Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology (EEOB) student, for his work over multiple semesters in Biology 256L where he explained topics so students understood them well. 

GDCB student Brian Zebosi received a REX award in spring 2024. He was nominated by the Interdepartmental Genetics and Genomics program.

Fall 2023 TEX recipients include: 

  • Anh Pham from GDCB’s Bai lab for TA work in Biology 311X where she overcame obstacles to help get materials ready for the students.
  • Abbigail McCune from GDCB’s Espin lab for her work in Biology 313L where she engaged students by using diverse instructional methods.
  • Basanta Bista from EEOB for providing a “positive and collaborative atmosphere for students” in Biology 212L.
