Powell-Coffman to serve as new LAS associate dean for research

Jo Anne Powell-Coffman, professor of genetics, development and cell biology, starts in her new role as associate dean for research in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on July 1. Powell-Coffman served as the GDCB departmental chair from 2011-18.

Jo Anne Powell-Coffman, professor of genetics, development and cell biology and former GDCB departmental chair from 2011-18, was named associate dean for research by Beate Schmittmann, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) dean. Powell-Coffman's five-year term appointment began July 1.

In her new role, Powell-Coffman will promote research and scholarship in the college across all scholarly fields represented in LAS.

“The depth and breadth of scholarly accomplishment and expertise in LAS is remarkable,” said Powell-Coffman. “It’s exciting to take on a role in which I can help colleagues to grow their research programs, recognize new opportunities and achieve even greater positive impacts.”
