Professor Michael Muszynski joined the GDCB faculty as a tenure-track assistant professor in GDCB on July 1, 2013, following a nationwide faculty search.  The Chair of GDCB, Dr. Jo Anne Powell-Coffman said, “We are fortunate to recruit Dr. Muszynski to this position.  His research builds upon strategic strengths at ISU, and he is a dedicated and talented instructor.”

The Muszynski research group uses maize as a model system and employs an array of state-of-the-art approaches to identify key determinants regulating plant form and growth.  In the longer term, Dr. Muszynski seeks to use this new knowledge to develop a systems-level understanding of key growth processes.  Professor Muszynski brings a great breadth of professional expertise to this position, with over 10 years of experience as a research scientist at Pioneer Hi-Bred and Syngenta Seed.  Professor Muszynski joined GDCB as adjunct assistant professor in 2002, and he developed a successful research program with funding from the National Science Foundation and Syngenta seeds.  He is also an accomplished instructor of core Genetics courses.  Professor Muszynski is currently the instructor for Biology 313L, the introductory genetics laboratory to accompany Biology 313.
