Professor Rodermel recipient of two ISU awards

Steven RodermelSteve Rodermel, professor of genetics, development and cell biology, will be recognized for his major contributions as a professor at Iowa State University as the recipient of two distinguished awards.

The first, that of Distinguished Professor, is in recognition by his colleagues and peers inside and outside the university of his accomplishments in research, and/or creative activities that have had a significant impact on, or improved the quality of, their discipline. Dr. Rodermel will hold the title of Distinguished Professor in Liberal Arts and Sciences for the remainder of his career at Iowa State. See Inside Iowa State News Release.

The second is the Margaret Ellen White Graduate Faculty Award, for which a graduate faculty member is nominated by a graduate student. This award recognizes the effectiveness of major professors who serve as mentors; who enrich the student-professor relationship by support and attention to detail which enables students to finish their work in a timely and scholarly manner. Major professors considered for this award are also expected to provide professional assistance to their students beyond graduation.

The Margaret Ellen White Graduate Faculty Award was established in 1985 by Margaret Ellen White to show her appreciation for excellent guidance and encouragement of graduate students.

Dr. Rodermel will be formally honored for these awards this fall at the annual ISU faculty and staff awards ceremony, tentatively scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2014.
