GDCB awards scholarships to recognize the achievements of students in each of the three undergraduate programs it administers. Please check each program website for more information.

Scholarship Programs for Biology Students
Sophomore Success Scholarship. Intended as a reward for academically successful and involved 2nd Year Iowa State Biology majors.
Irving W. and Natalie A. Knobloch Scholarship. Annual scholarship for an undergraduate student in the Biology Program with a demonstrated interest in botany.
Mary Kate Phillips Scholarship in Plant Sciences. Annual scholarship for an undergraduate student in in a major administered by the EEOB department (Biology, Genetics, and Environmental Science majors) with a demonstrated interest in plant sciences.
Scholarship Programs for Genetics Students
Sui Tong Chan Fung Fund for the Promotion of Study and Research in Genetics Scholarship. To reward academic achievement. Administered by GDCB department.
Sui Tong Chan Fung Fund Internship in the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology. Summer internships to provide opportunities for fulltime hands-on research experiences for ISU undergraduate students working in genetics research. Administered by GDCB department.
Mary Kate Phillips Scholarship in Plant Sciences. Annual scholarship for an undergraduate student in in a major administered by the EEOB department (Biology, Genetics, and Environmental Science majors) with a demonstrated interest in plant sciences.
Scholarship Program for BCBio, Biology, and Genetics Majors.
Darlene and Melvin Larsen Scholarship. To reward academic achievement. Administered by GDCB.
Diane Marie Heimbuch Scholarship. To reward academic achievement. Administered by GDCB.
Elinor L. Fehr and Walter R. Fehr Endowed Scholarship. For juniors or seniors with a 3.0 GPA. Administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Scholarship Opportunities Inside and Outside Iowa State University
This scholarship is available to entering freshmen who wish to study any major offered at Iowa State University. Students must have faced challenges of personal and/or financial hardship.
Roy J. Carver Trust Scholarship
Scholarships are available to full-time (12 hours or more) students who will be starting their junior year in the fall semester of the award year. The program centers on providing scholarships to students who struggle to overcome significant social and economic obstacles in the pursuit of their education or who may be living in circumstances that may not normally be taken into account by other financial aid programs.

The Department of Defense’s National Defense Education Program SMART Scholarship Program fully funds undergraduate and graduate degrees in a wide range of technical areas, including all fields of Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and Mathematics.
